A study commissioned by social media giant LinkedIn demonstrates the continuing demand for professional SEO expert, and that the demand is increasing — which is why searchers and marketers alike are calling 2020 a seller’s market for SEO professionals. The LinkedIn study shows that currently there are over 47 thousand openings in SEO related jobs in the United States, with around 900 thousand SEO-trained professionals available. That’s a ratio of twenty to one, which in today’s economy can be viewed as extremely encouraging.
Compare that with some other fields:
Software engineers — ten to one.
Product managers — thirty to one.
And web designers — twenty-three to one.
Most major universities now offer at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Search Engine Optimization, although some Ivy League institutions, such as Princeton, are still not convinced the subject merits a separate degree and lumps it in with computer science studies.
In Europe the demand for SEO experts still exceeds the demand, with countries like Italy and France encouraging foreign marketers with specific SEO skills who can already speak the language to immigrate by offering them hiring bonuses and a fast rack program for citizenship.
China and Japan are also looking for college graduates with SEO experience.
